RE: Bears at Eureka

Yes, you might see a bear in Eureka CO, sometimes they roam the streets of Silverton and Durango atnight. But break into your camper and eat your cat????:R I don't think so. And my DH accuses me of worrying about things that will never happen:S

RE: Eureka Colorado Ghost town, a Quick look

looks like a good place to go for medal detecting. You need a really good metal detector around this area. We tried it one time when we lived there, the detector beeped continuously! The problem is with all the metals found naturally and and also left from mining, milling and transporting silver and gold. Thanks to OP for the video, hope you enjoyed your stay!

RE: Any Toyhauler Models For A Toyota Tacoma

I've been researching the same thing for a couple weeks but need to haul 2 small ATVs. The Taco with tow package can haul 6500#. Best I found was KZ Coyote Rock Climber. Toyota Tacoma has a great forum with very helpful hauling recommendations.

RE: Ouray, Silverton & Animas Forks

RE: Ouray, Silverton & Animas Forks

Just my thoughts: South Mineral Campground:fine for big motorhomes or anything else you want to camp in. There is an organized fee area at the very end of the road with water and latrine. Several dispersed (free) areas along the road with latrines. Great fly fishing (trout) in the stream and beaver ponds. Lots of wildlife and waterfalls. Eureka: this is a "ghost town" owned in part by the county and part by Sunnyside Gold who are nice enough to overlook all the people taking advantage of a great campspot. No problem getting big rigs or anything else in here. BUT! Don't even consider camping here if you are not tolerant of a few ATV riders who are not respectful of others. So sad that a few have to ruin the fun for those that ride responsibly.:( Other than that, it is a wonderful place and lots of 4x4 roads start here. Don't even consider camping with anything at Animas Forks. OP, your small rig would make it up there but the road is very narrow, switch backs, drop offs, and don't forget all those rental Jeeps with drivers who are clueless:B Be sure to call the Silverton Chamber of Commerce to find out what 4x4 roads are open. Also ask if the roads are open to the other side, Ouray and Lake City counties are not as quick to get things done as San Juan (Silverton). Don't forget warm clothes, rain gear and bug spray. Enjoy! I lived fulltime in Silverton for 16 years so if you have any more questions I will try to answer.

RE: Roads open yet in La Sal NF above Moab

Bent Arrow, you might check out John Brown Road access from Gateway or Castle Valley, not a road I would recommend for a MH tho'. Also you can go up from our side (Hwy 90 from Naturita) to Buckeye Lake. Lots of different options.

RE: Roads open yet in La Sal NF above Moab

All the LaSal Mtn roads are open. Bring bug spray and jackets. Are you going to be camping at the place I recommended?:)

RE: Are RV prices going down because of hi fuel prices

We are sadly getting ready to take our Seneca Super C to a consignment dealer because we can no longer afford it.....fuel and Colorado property tax being just 2 factors. The dealer told us that today's market is so weak that our unit which retailed for $156,000 less than 2 years ago is now worth $58,000. I'd say that is DOWN. Look at the recent listings on Ebay and RV Trader, very low prices and hardly any bids or sales.

RE: I don't like campgrounds

Where are you going that you need a campground?:h How totally UNLIKE you!:E We moved to an area where we can ride our ATVs from the house for access to all of the LaSal MTS (Manti-LaSal NF) or the Uncompagre NF. Poor motor home is just sitting there looking neglected.

Couple of Questions

Starting to research TCs to see if downsizing to one would be the answer to our problems. Loved looking at the pics of your outfits as used in real life.....as opposed to the manufacturers shots with fake plants, bowls of fruit, etc.;) 1. how the heck do you make the bed? We had a 5th wheel many moons ago that was a real PITA because you couldn't stand up to make it.....in the TCs standing up bent over is not even an option! I'm old (well sort of)and have arthritis, there must be a secret or an easy way. 2. Has anyone removed the dinette and put in a couple small Euro-recliners? 3. How do you keep the TP dry in a wet bath?:h.....just kidding. 4. Where can I find info on past models if we are going to look at used TCs? Leaning towards Bigfoot. Arctic Fox and Lance right now but can't find specs, floor plans etc of pre 2008.

Thank you all so much!:) You have given us something to think about, especially in the coming/already here recession.

RE: ? About Licensing

It really doesn't matter what the law is in MT or OK or OR or WA or wherever, the law in YOUR state is all you have to worry about. Quite right! Anyone from Colorful Colorado want to answer?

RE: ? About Licensing

Sounds strange. Did you pay sales tax in NM and did you show the DMV people the sales documentation or did you not pay sales tax when you bought it?? You cannot avoid sales tax one place of the other. Does Colorado have an annual personal property tax that includes vehicles?? Is the super C on a heavy duty truck (like 18 wheeler tractor) chassis? Yup, sales tax was paid in NM and the clerk knew that. Personal property tax, don't know even tho' we lived here before. Super C is a medium duty Kodiak chassis. I asked about 5th wheels, is it any cheaper? She said she registered a new one this week with one slide....$1,200.00 Thanks to all the rest who responded, really helps with my argument to DH!

? About Licensing

Does a truck camper require a license/registration separate from the truck? Reason I'm asking is that I just got home from transferring plates and registration on our Super C. The DMV almost had to call the paramedics when the gal told me how much it was going to cost us....... former NM tags were $178.00 per year.....new CO tags are $1,481.37:E And she said the cost would not decrease for 10 years!:S Add the current price of diesel and I think I need to start convincing DH that it is time to downsize our "retirement home".;)

Would You Call This A SUPER C???

Saw this last week at the Moab Classic Car Show, would have loved to see the inside but didn't want to invade their privacy. The truck is a 1951 Chevy (or maybe Ford?:h), saw so many neat vehicles I just can't remember. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v604/KrisinNM/MoabCarShow2008017.jpg

RE: Silverton CO

It continues to amaze me that people want to camp in the trees in this area.:h It is ALWAYS cold, especially at night, and the sun is your best friend. By cold, I mean highs "might" get to 75 in the daytime and lows are usually around 40-50 at night. Then there are the sudden storms. A couple years ago a beetle damaged pine tree totally demolished a young couple's campsite at South Mineral while they were out hiking.:E

RE: Silverton CO

As a former year round Silverton resident, I have to say "ya just never know":) I have seen it snow on the 4th of July. And I can show you snow no matter what time of year it is. Be sure you have heavy jackets and rain gear. The road out to Eureka is gravel and flat, no problem for any size rig. It is a really nice place to boondock. The road to South Mineral is also gravel but is not kept open during the winter, is rougher, and you are more apt to see snow there but again, no problem for any size RV. It also has beautiful waterfalls and was always one of my favorite places. Some will warn you off from HWY 550 from Durango but it really isn't that bad. The visitor center at the edge of town used to allow campers to fill up with water, you need a long hose. Ask inside first. You can dump your holding tanks at Red Mountain RV park, used to be $5.00. Propane is trickier, you have to catch the folks that own the propane service to get your tanks refilled and they aren't always around....best to make sure they are full when you leave Durango. You have probably already been herebut it is a good place to start for info. The best place to eat is The Brown Bear. Handlebars is expensive and over rated. Any more ??? feel free to ask!:D
